History

Before Europeans settled in America, the area now known as Sunnyvale was populated by Native American tribes. As settlers migrated to Texas from the East, this underdeveloped area began to grow by leaps and bounds. In the early 1900s, the area was almost ruined by a large storm that literally blew parts of the town away. It was not until 1953 that the hamlets of Long Creek, Hatterville, Tripp, and New Hope merged, creating the city of Sunnyvale. Today, the city is a small but beautiful one. Nature lovers will not believe their eyes when they first lay eyes on the beautiful public parks available in Sunnyvale. Jobson Park offers visitors a hike and bike trail that is a quarter-mile long. Visitors can also play an organized or pick-up game of soccer on the park’s field. The most popular park by far, Town Center, has two playgrounds, a fishing pond stocked with blue gill, catfish and bass, a bike trail, shelters, and tennis courts.

The city is served by the Sunnyvale Independent School District and offers an elementary school, a middle school and a high school. Your children are sure to receive a quality education when you enroll them in any one of the three schools available in the area.
