Parks and Recreation

The Wylie Parks and Recreation Department provides the ability for young and not so young, to become and stay active. The rec center provides activities for all ages as well as various exercise equipment, a 3 lane indoor track, volleyball courts and aerobics classes for everyone and every skill level. On-site childcare is available for the little ones ages 6 months to 6 years old. This rec center offers a get away of sorts for stay at home moms who would not normally be able to find the time to exercise.

In addition to the rec center, the parks and rec department is also charged with maintaining the city’s multiple parks and their amenities. While some parks offer playgrounds for younger kids others offer baseball and softball fields and then there are game fields that provide lighting and seating for spectators. There is also a cricket pitch park, disc Golf Park, nature trails and a skate park.

One thing that is different about Wylie Parks and Rec that is not found elsewhere is that the sports leagues are managed independently. Each league sets its own rules and has its own contact information. The information on the various leagues can be found by going to www.wylietexas.gov, the parks and rec website. Here, you will find a list of the different leagues and either contact information or the website for each league.

Wylie Fire Department

Wylie Texas is home to an elite fire department that has worked hard to maintain the city’s ISO-1 rating which keeps homeowners insurance rates low based on the ability for the fire department to respond to emergencies. Additionally, Wylie, along with other departments in the area, built a state of the art training facility where their firefighters train for real life situations. They have classrooms for teaching and then a building that can be used for live fire and rescue technique trainings. The fire department is also very active in the community, teaching area kids about fire safety at the local schools during the month of October which is fire safety month as well as offering the national night out, giving everyone in town tours of the equipment they use including the trucks and aircraft.

Here, you will enjoy a way of life, not just a place to settle down. It is the place where kids enjoy playing in the park and the schools provide quality education. While it may be a small town, there is nothing small about it; from the attractions to the parks, there is always something fun and exciting right around the corner.
