Where it Started

Colleyville was originally a settlement on the Cotton Belt Route. At this time, it was known as Bransford, one of many smaller settlements in the area. In 1880 a prominent doctor, Dr. Lilburn Colley settled down and built the home that he would reside in. A few years later, another prominent resident built a grocery store close to the historic home and introduced the idea to name the town after the first person who put the town on the map: Dr. Colley, which is how it became Colleyville, as we know it today.

Educational System

The educational system in Colleyville starts with preschool and ends with various types of colleges in and around the Dallas-Ft Worth area. Starting with public schools, the Colleyville-Grapevine combined school district operates neighborhood oriented elementary and middle schools while the two area high schools serve the entire area. Colleyville Covenant Christian Academy offers private education to kids in grades Pre-K all the way to high school graduation.

After high school, most students who are alumni of the local schools will go on to attend some type of higher learning. Dallas-Ft. Worth has a wide variety of post secondary education opportunities close to home including the Art Institute, ITT Technical Institute, many two-year community and city colleges and Texas A&M School of Law. For instance, pop star Demi Lovato was originally from Colleyville as well as Texas Ranger outfielder Josh Hamilton, former MLB player Rafael Palmeiro, NFL quarterback Christian Palmer and DeMarkus Ware of the Dallas Cowboys.
