A Charming Dallas Suburb Rockwall is a small Texas town that is located approximately 30 miles northeast of the downtown Dallas area in Rockwall County. This desirable location offers easy access to several regional transportation hubs including Interstate 30, US Highway 80, Highway 66, and Highway 205.
The first American settlers arrived in 1841. They included a group of Illinois settlers who established homes near the east fork of the Trinity River. Most of these settlers were farmers and ranchers who played a key role in Rockwall's economy until the start of World War II.
The town got its name in 1851 when residents discovered a naturally occurring stone wall while digging. This wall is a popular tourist attraction and a source of friendly debate among residents who wonder how it was formed.
New housing developments increased during the 1970s and 1980s. Much of this interest was spurred by the development of Lake Ray Hubbard. Interest in the area started to boost when Dallas-area residents discovered the community's peaceful surroundings, reasonable living costs, and close proximity to downtown Dallas.
